Maryland: Security deposits
Md. Code, Real Prop. § 8-203(b)(1): max 1 month's rent for leases entered on/after Oct. 1, 2024 (prior cap was 2 months). Up to 2 months only in a narrow DHS utility-assistance scenario.
§ 8-203(e): simple interest at the greater of the 1-year Treasury yield or 1.5%/yr; accrues monthly, due only if held at least 6 months, deposits of $50+.
The uploaded dataset lists a deposit-return period of 45 days. Review the cited rule for the applicable conditions and timing.
Maryland: Rent regulation
No statewide rent control. Maryland permits local rent stabilization (Takoma Park, Montgomery County, Prince George's County), so the state does not preempt.
Maryland: Licensing and registration
No statewide residential rental license; licensing/registration is local (e.g., Baltimore City, Montgomery County). State lead rental registration with MDE applies to pre-1978 units.
